NEFCU Scholarship & Grant Opportunities

NEFCU offers scholarships and grants for high school students, student teachers, graduate students, and educators.

*Please note: employees and officers of NEFCU, its affliates, vendors/agents, and their families are not eligible to receive scholarship funds.

FYI Teacher Grants

We offer "Funding Your Ideas" (FYI) Teacher Grants to teachers within grades pre-K-12 in a Nassau or Suffolk County private, public, or parochial elementary or high schools for developing innovative classroom projects. Teachers may request up to $250 to support their project. To be eligible, applicants must be a member of NEFCU and prepare a proposal on how project will enhance the student's educational experience.

Please note: You may apply for the same project within the same school district, however each teacher must submit their own original proposal.

Written proposals are to remain anonymous. School, student and faculty names and pictures are prohibited and will result in disqualification.

Making a Difference Family Scholarship

The Making a Difference Family Scholarship provides eight $1,000 grants to any graduating senior who is either a member, or has a parent or guardian who is a member, of NEFCU. Winners will be selected by NEFCU's scholarship committee and announced in June.

You will need to submit:

  • Essay Question Answer (2 page limit)
  • Official High School Transcript
  • High School and Community Service Activities

Any information that is unable to be uploaded (i.e. High School and Community Service Activities or Transcript) can be mailed to NEFCU, Attention Scholarship Committee, 1000 Corporate Drive, Westbury, NY 11590.

The deadline to apply is April 30, 2014.

Making a Difference Premier Scholarship

The Premier NEFCU Making a Difference High School Scholarship is offered to the winners of the high school and family scholarships who will have an additional chance to apply for a $20,000 scholarship (paid over four years) to help fund their college education. 

You will need to submit:

  • Essay Question Answer (2 page limit)
  • 1 Letter of Recommendation
  • Verification from your Community Service Organization documenting the number of hours volunteered. (100 hours) This must be an official letter from the organization. Community Service must be for at least a 6 month duration. Single events such as community walks do not count toward the 100 hour requirement.  
  • Official High School Transcript

Please note: You must be a winner of the NEFCU Making a Difference High School or Family Scholarship to apply.

NEFCU Making a Difference College Scholarship Program for Student Teachers and Graduate Students

The NEFCU Making a Difference College Scholarship for Student Teachers and Graduate Students offers $1,500 to students enrolled in the Student Teaching component of their education or a graduate program of an eligible Nassau or Suffolk County college or university. Applicants must be a member of NEFCU, submit an official sealed school transcript, and answer an essay question. Five winners will be selected.
