NEFCU was proud to partner with the Long Island Children's Museum to sponsor a Read Across America event at the museum on March 4, 2012. The event is part of an ongoing effort by the National Education Association to promote literacy and reading across all age groups. Our own President and CEO Ed Paternostro attended and read a book to the children, "Curious George Visits the Library".
NEA's Read Across America Day takes place each year on or near March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens, and books. The event is the beginning of a month-long celebration of reading. The Read across America effort encourages teachers, parents and older siblings to pick up a book and read to younger children, and to model good habits by reading themselves and sharing their love of books with others.
Now in its thirteenth year, this year-round program focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources. YOu can find out more about the ongoing effort at the Read Across America website.
