NEFCU is proud to partner with the Long Island Children's Museum to sponsor a Read Across America event at the museum. The event is part of an ongoing effort by the National Education Association to promote literacy and reading across all age groups. The reading event is scheduled to take place on March 4 from 12 noon to 4 pm at the Children's Museum and will feature beloved literary characters Curious George and Max the Bunny, who will be reading favorite stories to the children.
NEA's Read Across America Day takes place each year on or near March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens, and books. The event is the beginning of a month-long celebration of reading. The Read across America effort encourages teachers, parents and older siblings to pick up a book and read to younger children, and to model good habits by reading themselves and sharing their love of books with others.
Now in its thirteenth year, this year-round program focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources.
