NEFCU Scholarships & Grant Opportunities

NEFCU is committed to supporting our local communities. That’s why we have awarded over one million dollars in scholarship and grant programs to support educational endeavors. We offer programs targeted at high school seniors, undergraduate and graduate college students, as well as educators and school administrators.

Programs for High School Seniors

Making a Difference Family Scholarship

  • Provides up to (12) $1,000 scholarships to students who are members or have a parent/guardian who is a member
  • Student must have a 4-year overall high school GPA of 90 or above and 50 hours of community service
  • Application requirements: Essay, unofficial school transcript, documented proof of 50 hours of community service (single events such as walks do not count)
  • Only one scholarship award per student

Making a Difference Premier Scholarship

  • Awards (1) $20,000 scholarship paid over 4 years
  • Offered ONLY to winners of our Family Scholarship (above) and High School Scholarship (see educator section)
  • Student must have a 4-year overall high school GPA of 90 or above and 50 hours of community service
  • Application requirements: Essay, unofficial school transcript, documented proof of 50 hours of community service (single events such as walks do not count)
  • Please note: A letter of recommendation is no longer required.

Application Period: May 15th - July 15th

Programs for Undergraduate & Graduate College Students

Making a Difference College Scholarship

  • Provides (5) $1,500 scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled in an accredited 4-year college or university
  • Student must be a member or have a parent/guardian who is a member
  • Student must have a minimum 3.5 GPA
  • Application requirements: Essay, unofficial school transcript, resume
  • Only one scholarship award per student

Application Period: October 3, 2016 - February 15, 2017

Making a Difference Community College Scholarship

  • Provides (5) $1,000 scholarships to undergraduate students who are enrolled in an accredited community college
  • Student must be a member or have a parent/guardian who is a member
  • Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Application requirements: Essay, unofficial school transcript, resume
  • Only one scholarship award per student

Application Period: October 3, 2016 - February 15, 2017

Programs for Educators & School Administrators

“Funding Your Ideas” (FYI) Teacher Grants

  • Offers educators a $250 grant for developing innovative classroom projects. (Checks will be made payable to the individual teacher, unless a special circumstance is needed.)
  • Open to teachers within grades pre-K-12 in Nassau or Suffolk County private, public, or parochial elementary or high schools
  • Applicants must be a member of NEFCU
  • Requirements: Written proposal that must be anonymous. See proposal guidelines.

Making a Difference High School Scholarship — For High School Administrators Only

  • School nominates ONE deserving graduating high school senior to receive a $500 award
  • Students/parents are NOT eligible to apply
  • Open to all Long Island high schools, excluding the townships of Shelter Island, East Hampton and Southampton.
  • Nominations must be made by the Principal, Asst. Principal, Guidance Counselor or Director of Guidance.
  • One nomination per school. Candidate must be attending a two-year or four-year college/university.
  • Candidate must: have a minimum four-year overall average of 90%, and demonstrated strong community service
  • Contact your Guidance Counselor regarding your high school’s participation.

Application Period: February 25th - May 16th
